Project Overview
A UT3 Graphic Design Assignment, a creative brief was given to student. It is regarding one of the largest networks of chain stores in Japan. I was task to revamp the corporate website. I gave Best Denki a new look and feel that is dynamic, interactive and that upholds its corporate identity.

Case Study
I did a case study on their current website. Mainly on the content and design. The site undergoes obstacles in terms of the design consistency, layout and its approach in selling their prodouct. The site achieves this through good usabiility and clear use of grid system. In the revamped website I have also incorporate a well-focused product site that will ease the convenience of the consumers Inspirations are from their competitive sites; Ikea and Courts..
The Challenge
Best Denki is one of Asia’s largest electrical and electronics retailers that has many attractive products to offer. However, you wouldn't get that impression from looking at their website. It's selling point of the product appears to be least attractive. The site was outdated and lacked useful information. Though there is sufficient images used to support the content, the choice of images was not strong enough. Some appears to be pixelated or small which can be a problematic for consumers to choose their desired products. The overall website lacks design identity and dynamism. The solution After a thorough research, I came to a conclusion that the revamped website would incorparate a well-focused product site that will boost up their selling point to their target audience. Giving a more perspective view of the products by having photographs from different angles with informative guidelines. Best Denki would need a design that is more dynamic and has a strong design identity. For design, the concept I decided to bring out is having a more dynamic tone where I would develop their design identity by adding a splash of red, white and black. This requires me to study on their company’s logo. I did my research on Best Denki logo where the colours are maintained prominently from the 3 different Best Denki sites; Japan, Kuwait and Singapore. Hence, I decided to maintain the position of the logo too that is placed on the top left hand corner. Besides maintaining the consistency, the new position of the logo will aid readability better. I have also added icons to aid quick understanding and visualization. I did to improve will be using a vector design treatment. I used simple forms and shapes as the visual identity for each section such as the warranty, safety 5, our services etc. The design is of the same treatment to maintain the consistency of best denki design treatment among the icons used.

In terms of content, all products page are filtered to 'browse by' section. Consumers then can choose to view the products according to department or alphabetical order or based by brands. The approach I did was to change the navigation toolbar content where their links are more direct and relevant to consumers. The new navigation toolbar is less confusing and more prioritizing to the important details such as easy findings to the contact page. I have added important and essential tool such as the ‘shopping cart’ icon and the search engine which will ease the search among visitors and thus, people are able to buy the product easily with simple payment methods.
